An accomplished artist
from an early age, Mark gained a degree in Fine Art from Epsom Art
College. Upon graduating, he initially joined the family landscape
gardening business whilst at the same time enrolling at agricultural
college in order to further his skills in this area. Eventually his
great love of painting encouraged him to follow his instincts and devote
himself full time to his art.
Mark has always been influenced by the work of Degas and although he
produces superb original oils, he has always preferred the pastel
medium. Marks use of oils and pastels enables him to create images which
exude atmosphere through his use of texture and deep, rich colours. A
regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries in London, he also enjoys
phenomenal success throughout the world and cites Jeffrey Archer and
Bamber Gascgoine among his celebrity collectors.
Focusing mainly on figurative images, Mark also has a keen interest in
sporting subjects and is greatly admired for his depiction of sporting
scenes and the crowded elegance of social occasions, in particular the
Henley Regatta, Ascot and Goodwood. The reflection of light on water has
also been a source of inspiration for his beach scenes of children.
In 1993 Mark was awarded the coveted Patterson Award presented by the
Royal Pastel Society of which he is a member, and he has since been
invited to join the prestigious Royal Water-Colour Society and the Royal
Oil Institute. With his ongoing commitment to his art, and the
production of such beautiful pastel pieces Mark is assured of continued
success.
"I enjoy the physical element of drawing with pastels, building up the
image in layers, adding depth and creating different moods through the
careful use of rich colours."
