Born in 1958 Simon studied art at both Cheltenham and Leeds Colleges of Art. He has built up a phenomenal reputation as a printmaker, both on the home and international market with his vibrant and unique style of monotype etchings. This has culminated in his nomination for the 1997 Fine Art Trade Guild, "Best Selling Artist of the Year."

Simon places great emphasis on purity, brilliance of colour and freedom of expression. Dissatisfaction with traditional etching techniques led Simon to experiment with monotypes, enriched by the use of complementary pastels, gouache and gold leaf. He produces limited edition etchings of many of his highly individual images using this technique. Each monotype in the edition is individually printed and then coloured by hand. Every print is therefore unique, and although at first glance each print may appear to be the same, there will be an individual nuances which add originality to each piece.

"Sunflowers, Parfums and Bouquet d'ete were inspired by the warm natural tones of Provence with its medieval farmsteads and flower meadows." Simon describes how ". . . the freshly gathered local flowers had been arranged with artless simplicity in rustic jugs and vases. Their rich colours were vibrant against the faded stonework shadows.

Simon has deservedly won widespread critical acclaim, his work is to be found in many collections including, Leeds and Wakefield City Art Gallery, the Halifax Building Society, the National Westminster Bank, North West Water Authority and in the personal collection of HRH the Duchess of Kent. Since 1976 Simon has participated in prestigious exhibitions all over the world and there is no doubt his future looks golden.
